John Southern Sporting Trial 2026 Event Report

The John Southern Trial delivered another fantastic day's sporting trialling, with plenty of close competition, clean climbs and the usual mix of determination, skill and good humour that makes these events so enjoyable. With four rounds of challenging sections to negotiate, the emphasis was firmly on consistency, and the crews that kept mistakes to a minimum were rewarded accordingly.

Bricknell and Beveridge Take the Honours

Leading the way were Thomas Bricknell and Andy Beveridge, who produced an outstanding performance in their Crosslé to take overall victory with a score of 23.

Finishing in second place were Simon Kingsley and Matthew Kingsley, whose score of 39 secured them a well-deserved runner-up position. Completing the podium were David Webster and Suzanne Webster with 54 after a consistent drive across all four rounds.

Tight Battles Throughout the Field

Behind the leading trio there was plenty of competition, with positions changing throughout the day as crews alternated between clean climbs and costly mistakes. Richard Sharp and Joe Sharp finished fourth on 61, while George Watson and Victoria Watson rounded out the top five with a score of 67.

Further down the leaderboard, the margins remained tight with many crews separated by only a handful of marks. Every section mattered, and a single clean climb often proved enough to gain several places.

Variety on Display

Among other notable performances, Sam Beare and Jemima Perham steered their Sherpa to a score of 59, while Alan Murton and Gill Murton finished close behind on 68. David Simmons and Anita Simmons brought their Cap home on 75 after battling through some demanding sections, while a number of crews showed real perseverance in completing all four rounds.

Conclusion

The John Southern Trial produced an excellent day's competition, with four rounds of challenging sections testing both drivers and passengers throughout the field. Consistency was rewarded, and while many crews produced individual moments of brilliance, it was Thomas Bricknell and Andy Beveridge who put together the most complete performance of the day to secure a deserved victory.

Behind them, a competitive field battled throughout the leaderboard, producing close contests and plenty of entertaining action. Congratulations go to all competitors, organisers and marshals who contributed to another successful running of the John Southern Trial.
